Salvador Dali and Christ of St John of the Cross

I feel like I’ve hardly been here in the past month or so.  Inspiration has been thin on the ground, and I’ve been very busy.  I’m not long back from visiting home.  It was wonderful.  I really didn’t want to come back, and it just made me dreadfully homesick while I was . . . → Read More: Salvador Dali and Christ of St John of the Cross

I’m still feeling a bit poorly, and hopefully I’ll be feeling much better tomorrow.  The weather is dreadful here today. There’s been a lot of rain: enough to call off a football match during the actual game. Painting with your hands

I watched a video by Alchemy of Creation on YouTube last night, and was inspired by her to try out painting by hand.  I’ve never thought of using my hands to paint, but it was great fun even if a bit messy.  Funnily enough I never got any paint on my clothes!  Continue reading Painting with your hands

Another variation on a theme

Here’s a piece that I’m working on for Painting To A Theme.  This time I’ve taken Edward Burne-Jones’ ‘The Soul Attains’ from his Pygmalion and the Image series.  I used exactly the same style as I did on my version of Portrait of Helene Vary.  However, in this image there are two figures instead of one.  This posed something of a challenge because of the style and colour scheme I’m using.

Painting To A Theme Progress

I worked on Painting To A Theme today, and I selected two more possible images for my final pieces, which I am currently working on, so I won’t be able to show them here tonight.  I also carried out another colour study on my version of Toulouse-Lautrec’s Portrait of Helene Vary.  I carried out this colour study because the first image I worked on had a blue figure with a dark background.  As you will know, warm colours stand in the foreground, whilst cool colours recede into the background.  So I thought that I should try inverting the image, bringing the browns into the foreground and pushing the blues into the background.  Personally, I prefer the first image, even if it is “technically incorrect”.
