I guess because I've never been taught this stuff it kind of makes it difficult when the brief is to add depth. I'm really learning on my feet. Unfortunately for me, this course generally assumes that you know all this stuff, even though they're aware that I'm new to it all. To make something recede: make it cooler, softer, smaller, less textured, or behind neighboring shapes or objects. That's the quick and dirty. The yellow shape appears to advance because its lighter, warmer against a darker, color shape. Plus, it is placed on top of the purple shape (illusion caused by being completely surrounded by the purple shape). You have more detail on the yellow shape too. Ahh, it's so much easier seeing things in other people's work! I like your boldness with color and texture! What a wonderful adventure you're on! Keep at it, you're doing well! Hi Heather:

I like the colors in the second one, also.
