I worked a bit on my little journal this evening. It is so beautiful that it merits working on. This is the first time I’ve worked on such a small space (2.75 x 3.275 in) so it’s a bit of a challenge for me. The good thing is that I can work fairly quickly in it. I haven’t done anything special, but I couldn’t bear to see it lying empty! The first couple of pages were really just about making marks.
First of all, I added the little glass heart that Catherine gave me along with the journal. There’s a small bookmark ribbon in the book, so I thought it would be nice to tie the heart onto it. I think it looks rather cute.
I also stuck some card paper inside and painted over it with some trees. I’ll admit that they’re not the best example of trees but as I said, the intention was just to make some marks.
I then added a couple of little abstract pictures.
Finally, I thought I’d challenge myself by painting glass. I’ve never painted a glass (tumbler) before, and it was just sitting in front of me begging to be painted. Again, it’s not the best piece of work, but at I’m trying to push myself into trying new things. I’m used to painting people and find it’s not such a difficult task. I’m learning to observe objects through Analytical Drawing, but painting a glass is quite a different thing. I painted it in an Impressionist kind of style.
I can see a few things wrong with it. The curve at the top-front of the glass is a little too bowed towards the viewer. I also think that the shading in the lower part of the glass is too dark, and should be slightly duller. However, I’m happy with it as a first attempt.

Cool journal pages, Heather. I also like the addition of the gift heart!
Thanks Leslie. I'm hoping that I can try out many new things in the journal like landscapes, faces, and many other things.
Hi Peggy. Thank you! I think I have unwittingly been influenced by the weather here. We have been completely covered in snow for 3 weeks and temperatures are as low as -23&C! I want to paint some snowy trees, as it is so beautiful outside.
Hi, on the header to the left of the search bar and page clip, and to the right of the page tabs, there’s an almost transparent RSS button. It’s a design flaw, sorry. Hope that helps!
