Who gets excited over old stringy stuff?

Ehm, me.  I didn’t know that until I came across it, but apparently I do.  We’ll get to that shortly.

I was going to try and work today, but you know something?  I couldn’t be bothered.  I was supposed to go to a party tonight, but I’m feeling slightly under the weather, and I really have no energy for it. I just want to stay at home and do nothing.

Plus I have something akin to nerd shoulder!  You know what I mean, don’t you?  The pain you get in your shoulder from sitting at the computer for way too long and from typing too much. Well I have a similar thing, except that my right shoulder aches from carrying my supplies bag to college everyday.  I use my laptop bag, with the strap hanging off my shoulder, and it is stuffed full of art utensils, sketchbooks and general everyday things.  I also lug around my materials’ box, containing my paints, inks, etc.  On top of that I carry an A2 portfolio folder.  I not only carry them to and fro college but I also have to carry them around with me all day, but it is carrying my laptop bag that is causing my pain.  Of course, it really doesn’t help that I’m also sitting at my laptop for ages!I’m sure that a few days rest will sort me out, even if it is only till I go back to college.  I really must remember to swap my bag over to my other shoulder!

Anyway,  enough complaining!

Back to the old stringy stuff!  I thought I’d like to show you some material that I got from one of my classes.  I was rummaging through the cupboards with the head of the department.  I can’t remember what we were looking for, but she spotted some material and my eyes lit up feverishly.  It really doesn’t take much to make my eyes light up.  I have a childlike fascination for anything new, shiny or something I don’t actually have.  Anyway, she spotted this roll of hessian, and I was all ‘Oooooo’.  I told you it doesn’t take much.  Noticing my excitement, she told me to help myself, and boy did I?

I had all manner of ideas running through my head.   I was thinking fishing nets for my Coast project, and then I thought guitar neck and strings for my My Space project.  Then I showed it to the girls at my table, and they were all ‘Oooooo’.  So it wasn’t just me.  You’d think we were shown pretty diamonds or something, but no, just old ropey material!  We all swooped on it, like we were at a feeding frenzy, all hacking bits off here and there.  I managed to salvage quite a bit for myself, and I can’t wait to try out my many ideas.  Oo oo oo!  I just thought of another idea!  I’m thinking I could add it to my collograph.  You know, the one with hubby’s boxer shorts? Hmm, I wonder how that would look.  I think I’m going to have to do a test run first.

So without further ado, here is the old ropey material that had my mouth watering:

I know, you think I’m mad, don’t you? I don’t care! It’s the simple things in life that keep me going!  Simple things for simple minds.  Hopefully, I’ll have something better to show you tomorrow.
