I can’t believe how quickly this term is moving. It only seems like five minutes ago that I was sitting in class, nervous as hell about how I would cope with the course, the workload, and whether I’d measure up to everyone else in the class!
So far, I’m happy to say that I’ve coped pretty well. For the first couple of weeks I really did wonder if I was going to be able to do it, but somehow I’m actually ahead of schedule. How the hell that happened, I’ve no idea!
I still don’t think my standard is up to that of the others in the class, but that’s probably because everyone has years on me in terms of practise. What I do have is enthusiasm and a love for what I’m doing. Everyday I’m learning something new, and you can’t put a price on that.
I imagine that the next couple of weeks is going to be mental. I’m ready to start painting on my canvasses for Painting To A Theme. I’ve chosen my final 4 Coast images for printmaking, so it’s only a matter of deciding which technique to go for. That really only leaves me to start planning my final piece for My Space, which I should have down over the next few days.
So here are a couple of pieces I had worked on for My Space. These were done in my first week when I didn’t really have a clue what was going on. They are pretty naff but I hope you can see where I was and where I am now.

Mixed media: oil pastels, quink and bleach. I combined cartoon, childhood and musical images to portray the idea of My Space

Acrylic paints. I wanted to portray childhood by using simple images with bold colours.
