Diary Of A Student Artist – Day 1

I started drawing and painting a few months ago – something which was completely new to me. I have been learning to draw with the help of an online tutorial site – Drawing Tutorials Online, which is taught by Matt Archambault, who teaches at the New York School of Visual Arts.  This is an amazing website with hundreds of hours of video tutorials and is completely invaluable.

When I started drawing, I could draw the way most people tend to draw – like a child – at least when it came to drawing people.  You know the way – faces are drawn with ovals for eyes and almost a triangle for a nose – but certainly not anything that looks like a real person.  So I’ve been practising, and my sketchbook is amassing quite a number of pictures.  I’m not saying that they’re very good but I can see a huge improvement on where I started out.

So, I thought I’d start a drawing blog, where I could add my thoughts and show what I’m working on or have finished, as a good way of seeing my own progress and having a permanent record of it. So you’ll be seeing the good, the bad and the downright awful!

Here are my sketches so far, in order from my very first drawing till yesterday’s:
